Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Plus – is it worth it?

I’m a big fan of gadgets – beauty gadgets, home gadgets, you name it. Everything that promises to make my life easier – and, in addition, help me save time and money – has my attention. If it is related to hair, take my money. Hair dryer brushes are nothing new, I know, but I started using them recently, and today, after almost a year, all I can say is: why didn’t I buy this brush sooner? In today’s post, I will talk more about the REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0 and why it became my favorite.

My hair routine

I have wavy hair, and I was a teenager when I discovered the hair straightener. When that invention arrived at the salons in my hometown, and I found out about it, I had to buy one for myself. I remember it was one of my significant “investments” – I made money by selling Avon. At the time, it was still that one with the broadest plate, without any of today’s technologies and which, consequently, damaged hair much more.

When the hair straightening treatments wave started, I did that too. All of them, keratin, chocolate and everything else you can imagine. But I always thought it was not a great solution because the effect didn’t last on my hair. After all, I have oily hair and I ended up washing more and more – and shortening the product’s effectiveness. Until I made a permanent hair straightening treatment – with L’oreal X-tenso. It was amazing. The procedure took hours, but the hair was always straight. And then I decided to do highlights, and I had to choose since these chemicals – bleaching and straightening – are not compatible.

At the same time, I always used a hair dryer to dry my hair – but a dryer alone doesn’t work miracles unless you know how to blow dry, so, despite the hair being fixed with the dryer, I always needed to finish with a hair straightener. And it was like that for years, using the dryer + hair straightener combo – always with thermal protector and hydrating masks to treat and recover my hair.

My experience with REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0

Important to say that the Revlon hair dryer brush was not the first brush of its kind that I tested. I had already used the Conair Spin Air Rotating Styler/Hot Air Brush after a friend recommended me – she uses and loves it! But I didn’t adapt to the rotating function – which is excellent even for creating a wavy finish. Maybe my commitment was lacking, maybe it wasn’t for me, because not everything works out for everyone, right? I got rid of the brush and never thought about it again.

Until last year –  I don’t remember why – I decided to give the REVLON One-Step Volumizer a chance. This is a Revlon bestseller. I watched some videos on how to use it, and the first time I tried it the only possible question was: why did it take me so long to buy this hair dryer brush? Important to say that my first purchase was the classic version of REVLON One-Step Volumizer , but then I found out that Revlon had released the PLUS 2.0 version based on customer feedback and after watching a video comparing it, I thought it best to return mine and buy the PLUS version. I decided to make this switch because the PLUS version is smaller than the classic version and is ideal for those with little hair/short hair, and works better to lift the roots.

It is worth mentioning that this brush from Revlon does not have a rotating function – think of it as a brush that releases hot air!

How to use REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0

When I posted about this brush in my stories, I got a lot of messages. A lot of people said they loved it, a lot of people said that the brush had destroyed their hair, a lot of people said I was using it wrong and that I was going to ruin my hair. Just in case, I talked to my hair stylist, who I think is knowledgeable enough to assess what I was doing, and she said everything was fine. So, I’ll share what it works for me and how I use it, ok?

I like to use the brush on damp hair – not super wet, not 100% dry. I like to use a microfiber towel – which helps dry my hair without causing frizz. Some people told me to use it on my dry hair, but for me it didn’t work, plus it makes the product lose its purpose – in my case, I don’t want to wait for the hair to dry. I want to both – drying and styling.

I divide my hair into two sides, and then I divide each side into two sections, top and bottom. And then I dry it section by section – my hair is medium length, and I have an average amount of hair, and it takes me a maximum of 10 minutes to finish. The brush is not heavy, and I don’t get tired. It doesn’t take long for you to get used to it – even the first time I used it, I found it quick and easy. What I like most about the result is that the hair is shiny, sleek and with movement – unlike the results, you get using the hair straighter, which leaves the ends very straight and with no movement. You choose how you want to style it: flips, soft waves, and more. Also, I love that the brush lifts the roots and gives some volume – if you want more, just use a mousse to give it a boost. I’ve never had the skills to do a blow dry by myself because I find it an arduous task to hold a brush and dryer at the same time, and that’s why I think the REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0  is fantastic – because it provides a salon blow dry finish in few minutes and very quickly. For me, it’s a great product, because now, instead of two steps – dryer + hair straightener – I only need one step. I save time and, on top of that, I expose my hair to just one heat source. Not to mention that the finish is beautiful and natural.

How to take care of your hair

I use REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0 every time I wash my hair – and there are some periods when I wash my hair every day. Added to that, I have highlights, so you know, it is a lot. But so, how to prevent that from ruining your hair? That’s the self-responsibility thing right? Everyone knows that using a hairdryer (or any other heat tool) + hair dye or highlights is a dangerous combination that can cause damage to the hair and, therefore, you need to take care of your hair. It’s been almost a year and I’ve been using the Revlon brush religiously and my hair is still great – last time I was getting a haircut I asked the girl what she thought of my hair’s health and she said it was very good. I had no split ends and the ends of my hair weren’t dry. And certainly, this is due to the extra care I have for my hair. Here’s my ritual:

• Heat protector – I use heat protector religiously. About 2 years ago I promised myself I wouldn’t skip this step anymore – even though I knew it was essential, sometimes I didn’t use it cause I was lazy. I don’t do that anymore. My favorite heat protectants are Discipline Heat Protecting Leave-In Treatment For Frizzy Hair, by Kerástase, and Care Lumi Coat Luminous Shine Spray, by Keune. They are the best I’ve ever used, especially Keune’s. In addition to protecting against the heat, these products leave hair softer, silky, and shiny. Like salon finish. You don’t need to apply both, you can choose just one. These expensive products, but they last a long time!
• Hair oil – Óleo – when I want a perfect finish, I apply a few drops of Semi Di Lino Sublime Cristalli Liquidi, from Alfaparf Milano on the ends and lengths. In addition to giving shine, it has a wonderful smell.
• Treatment mask –I always have at least three types of masks in the shower – one for hydration, one for restoration, and another for nutrition. I know that a lot of people are scared when we talk about using a hair mask because they think that the ritual involves staying many hours with the product in the hair, but nowadays most masks act in 3 minutes, so you can use it when you wash your hair. I really like Joico, Shea Moisture and Sebastian masks.
• Night treatment – another thing I really like to do is apply specific products for night use onhair lenght. Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum Hydrating Treatment, by Kerástase, is a lightweight serum that hydrates hair while you sleep to strengthen, detangle, and enhance shine. Invisible Day & Night Cream, by Windle is a leave-in hair moisturiser that brings hair to life and revitalises faded locks with a healthy shine. The formula has oils, aloe vera and UV filter. I know that the idea of putting cream on dry hair before bed can give some people goosebumps – especially the ones with oily thin hair – but trust me: these products are super lightweight. You don’t need a lot of product and the hair absorbs the product – without messing the pillow. I love it because it gives it that boost, especially if I didn’t wash my hair that day.

Yes, I know that many of these products are not the cheapest, but for me, hair care needs to be part of my everyday routine. If we don’t take care, we pay a price – much more expensive – in the future. So, I try to do my part, because using a hairdryer and having highlights is my choice – and it would be a serious mistake to spend money on highlights not to take care of my hair.

Conclusion

REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0 The REVLON One-Step Volumizer PLUS 2.0 is an excellent investment. I’d say even if you don’t blow-dry your hair often – but like a neater finish every now and then, it’s worth the investment! Nothing against salon services, but we can’t always pay for a blow dry, right? So I think it’s worth it! If you’re a hair dryer heavy user, you should definitely buy it – but remember to always use a heat protectant to protect your hair and ensure a better result! As you can see, I’m a big fan of this hair dryer brush and I will always spread the word about it!
