Does IPL hair removal work? SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal Device review

Short answer: yes, they do work! In this post, I will share with you my experience with the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal Device. I’ve always wanted to try these at-home hair removal devices – mostly because I didn’t feel like paying four digits for a treatment at a clinic and because I’m obsessed with beauty gadgets.

To be completely honest, I as a little skeptical at first – but after using it for more than 3 months I feel confident to share my thoughts with you!

What is IPL?

IPL stands for “Intense Pulsed Light.” It is a non-invasive technology used in most at-home devices for hair removal. IPL devices emit broad-spectrum light bursts that target hair follicles’ pigment. This light energy becomes heat and damages the follicles, preventing hair growth. Over the following days or weeks, the treated hairs will gradually fall out.

You should know that IPL typically requires multiple sessions spaced apart because hair grows in different stages, and multiple treatments ensure that hair in all growth phases is targeted. Also, IPL doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal, but it can provide long-term reduction in hair growth. You may need occasional maintenance sessions to keep the results.

The SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal Device

The SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal Device is the most powerful intense pulsed light device available. Here are some of the features:

  • 10 power settings treat the entire body in 10 minutes
  • 3 removal modes + target precision head head for tiny areas like the lip, bikini line, toes, and more
  • Skin sensor sets the pain-free intensity

The device features 10 energy settings ranging from 3 – 6 J / cm2 and up to 130 flashes a minute for intense pulsed light (IPL) hair removal treatments. The brand promises you will notice results in just 4 weeks and they assure that, across 3,000 clinical treatments, 86% saw less hair in under a month. Also, the sensors check your skin and create a personalized intensity level just for you.

How to use the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal Device

I have to be honest: at first, I was afraid to use the device – and I may have procrastinated until I finally decided to start a treatment. I watched some videos on Youtube, I read the instructions carefully and I also watched the video from the brand.

I decided to start by treating my legs. First, you need to shave the treatment area and dry it. Then, after plugging the device, you choose the mode, head, and intensity. I used the regular head and decided to start with the gentle mode – mostly because, as I said, I was insecure about it, and I didn’t know what I would feel. Then you start the treatment by placing the  SmoothSkin Pure Fit flat against the area and press the button, moving after each flash. It is important to notice that the device doesn’t release the flash if the head is not perfectly in contact with the skin.

After some weeks, I was more confident, and I decided to increase the intensity. Honestly, I have no complaints! You barely feel a warm touch on your skin – and the light is probably faster than a second. So, I can confidently say that it’s painless!

Does SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal Device work?

Yes, at least for me, it worked! Right now, while I write this post, I’m on my eleventh week treating the legs, and I’m so impressed with the results – visible after 4 or 5 weeks. The hair barely grows, and I can’t wait to start treating my bikini line and the underarms. I advise anyone using this device to pay attention to the areas you are treating – I know for sure I missed some areas in my legs. Probably the big areas are trickier cause you have a lot to cover and keep track of!

Also, besides the efficiency, which, of course, is important, two other factors make me love this device. First is the convenience: it’s so easy and quick to use – I treat both legs in less than 5 minutes. On top of that, I don’t need to leave my house and commute to do this treatment and I’m in the comfort of my home. I set a recurring event on my calendar every week so I don’t forget to do it and voilà. I can go back to my routine right after.

The second thing that makes me love this device is the price. It costs less than $400, and the device is mine forever. Yes, you could argue that you need maintenance after finishing the treatment – but for me, it’s not a problem to do that every 1-2 months, considering that when you shave or wax, you need to do it more often, and it’s way messier. Also, a clinic treatment requires maintenance, so there’s no way around it.

So, yes, I definitely recommend it!
