7 ways to enjoy a pool day in New York City

Some people are surprised by this information, but we have summer in New York – in fact, it can be very hot in the city. We know that winter is harsh and the cold lasts for months, but summer can also be intense. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to cool off – whether it’s taking the subway to a nearby beach, spending the day at a park, or choosing a museum or other indoor attraction to take advantage of the air conditioning (don’t tell me you never did that lol) or spending a day at the pool, why not? In today’s post, I list some really cool ways to enjoy a pool day in the city.

1. QC Spa

QC NY is part of the renowned QC Terme Spas and Resorts, with a lot of spas in Europe. It is located on Governors Island, which served as a military base for almost 200 years and is located approximately 800 yards south of Manhattan (a 10-minutes ferry ride). The day spa is situated across three historic Army Barrack buildings on the island, which have been refurbished and preserved to maintain the rich history of the local property. There are gorgeous grounds featuring unprecedented views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey, relaxation rooms (each with its own meticulously curated personality, scent, and music), themed saunas, and other incredible wellness experiences such as vichy showers, infrared beds, foot baths, hydro jets, steam baths and, of course, pools! There are two pools with views of Manhattan and the pools have seats and also hydro massage. A delight!

2. Roosevelt island

Every summer since 2014, K&CO Design and Pliskin Architecure has been working with the Manhattan Park residential complex to create a pop-up art installation for the Manhattan Park Pool Club, which is located on Roosevelt Island. The club is beautiful, with chairs, umbrellas and, of course, views. The club is open on weekdays and weekends over the summer and they offer special prices for Roosevelt Island residents.

3. AIRE Ancient Baths

With locations in cities like Chicago, Barcelona and New York City, this place offers a luxurious relaxation experience – and it was featured in one episode of Billions. AIRE spaces are ˜temples dedicated to the relaxation of body and mind in which time does not exist”. They are inspired by the tradition of baths from ancient Roman, Greek and Ottoman civilizations. In New York City, AIRE is Located at a restored historical building, originally an 1883 textile factory. During the session, you will have access to the signature bath experience featuring 6 thermal baths (hot bath, the ice and cold plunges, the warm pool, the flotarium – salt water pool-, and the jet pool).

4. Resort Pass

This is such a convenient and amazing solution to spend a day at the pool in NYC! The Resort Pass is, like the name suggests, a pass for those who want to spend a day in a nice pool. It is a convenient solution for you to have access to hotel pools without being a guest. There are passes starting at $45 and The William Vale and ARLO are just some of the hotels available! Click here and check it out.

5. Swimply

Think about Swimply as an Airbnb for pools. People who have a pool at their homes offer the space for rent on this website. And yes, there are pools in NYC – not many, but there are a few. I think it’s great to rent in a larger group, so it’s not expensive. There are swimming pools with complete structure – including grills and chairs! Get $5 credit on your first booking!

6. Hot Tub Cruise Tour

This is a very special and amazing experience! Sea the City, the famous Jet Ski tours company offers tours on a 40′ boat featuring two bubbling hot tubs. This is the first of its kind hot tub boat in New York City – and, at this moment, Sea the City is the only company to offer it. The hot tub boat carries two, ten-person commercial grade hot tubs, and is bookable by the tub (up to 10 people) or by the boat (up to 20 people). The amenities include a large bathroom and a separate changing room. Also, Sea the City provides coolers, ice, and cups for beer and wine. In addition to the captain, there is the staff is on board to assist guests. Also, the boat has canvas covers to protect the tubs from heavy rain and also from the sun – providing a comfortable and enjoyable ride. The boat departs from the Marina going down the Hudson River providing views of the Manhattan skyline and heads towards, of course, the Statue of Liberty.

7. Public pools

There are dozens of public swimming pools in all of New York’s five boroughs – and yes, they are 100% free. These are usually located in city parks – there is even one in Central Park (currently closed for renovation). Public pools are generally open from May to September – Memorial Day to Labor Day and locks are required to enter.
