One of the coolest things to do here in New York is the rooftops. Located on the terraces of the city’s buildings – mostly hotels – these places are bars that have a privileged view of the city. There are countless rooftops in the city, and the best thing is that there is always a new space opening. The new one is the WestLight rooftop at The William Vale, located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I had seen some pictures of the view from there on social media, and I was blown away. Last Friday, we were there, and today I am here to recommend the place.
Located on the 22nd floor of the hotel, WestLight has breathtaking views! As Williamsburg is east of Manhattan, you can imagine how amazing is the view from there, right? Nothing less than the city skyline – with buildings like Empire State the One World Trade Center, not to mention the East River, resulting in a spectacular image. Not kidding: I’ve already been on some city rooftops, I have been to some places with views of Manhattan… The WestLight was, until today, the place that gave the most beautiful city view. It is, for me, on the same level as the Top of the Rock and One World Trade Center Observatory. As we were there at the end of the day, we had the opportunity to enjoy the sunset and … it was jaw dropping!
The bar features an indoor area – which will be great for those who want to visit the place during the winter months – and a wide open area surrounded by glass. In addition, there is also a second floor with artificial grass and ample space – but it was closed for adjustments on the day I was there. The hotel is also amazing. With 183 rooms, it opened earlier this month and features incredible architecture with modern super facilities. I wish I could stay there!
Westlight is a bar, so the menu offers choices of wines (glasses and bottles), well-served drinks and a selection of beers. If you get hungry, some options like burgers, fries, salads, and other appetizers are also available. But remember that it’s a bar, not a restaurant. If you want to get out of there very satisfied, the ideal is to ask for several plates to share. Check the menu on the website.
It was a wonderful experience; I have nothing to complain about it. Amazing views, great service, and good drinks. It is worth noting that the dress code is very informal. Oh, I also suggest making a reservation to ensure a good spot- you can make it online. The bar is open daily – from Sunday to Wednesday, from 4pm to 12am and from Thursday to Saturday from 4pm to 2am. Remember that you must show an ID to prove you are at least 21 years old.
Address: 111 North 12th Street – Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Use L subway line.
