My favorite Ride-Sharing Apps to use in New York City

Although I’m a strong advocate of using public transportation in New York City, we all need a ride sometimes, right? To get back home late night, to go to the airport, when the place you are going is far from the subway station or even because you are lazy. Let’s face it: you don’t need an excuse to request a car. Check my favorite ride sharing apps to use in New York City.

Before we get started, just to clarify, in case you’ve never used a ride-sharing app: you have to download the app on your smartphone, signing up – and providing a credit card – and that’s it. When requesting the car, you type the pickup point and the destination address. The app will inform the car model, the plate, the name of the driver and the estimated arrival – and the payment involves no cash: it is all through the app.

Uber – I can not really talk about this subject without mentioning Uber, right? Besides UberX and UberBlack, there is Uberx share, where you share a ride and save up to 20%. When you choose UberX Share, the app will  look for someone who selected the same category and is going in the same direction as you. It is good if you wanna same some bucks. Another cool function of Uber is “Share this ride”, great for when you want to split the fare with someone. Oh, it is worth remembering that the Uber X will always be cheaper than the Uber Black – the difference is that UberBlack offers medium sedan cars, with leather seats and always in black. UberX offers compact cars and small sedans, have air conditioning, and can be silver, gray or black.

Lyft – Lyft, after Uber, is the most popular in New York. Lyft also makes runs to/from LaGuardia and JFK airports. Lyft lets you choose the car by the number of seats: Lyft (4) and XL (6 people), besides other VIP cars. The rick to save some money with Lyft is choosing Wait & Save – you will wait more for the car and pay less.

Revel – new ride-sharing app – the difference is that all the cars are blue Teslas. So, if you’re curious about what it’s like to ride an electric car, it might be an opportunity, lol. For now, there are only two categories of cars: the Tesla, for 4 passengers, and the WAV, with accessibility and space for 3 passengers.

Curb – Curb is an exclusive app for yellow cabs – you can even book a ride for later. You can choose between a regular or accessible taxi and also black cars.
