What to wear for the New York Winter – 10 outfit ideas

Winter is, by far, my least favorite season in New York City. Even after more than 10 years living here, I still can’t say I love this season – and I always celebrate when it ends. I must say, though, my pet peeve with winter is mostly about two things: 1. the lack of natural light, with shorter days – although we can’t complain a lot since it’s still pretty sunny during day time; 2. the length of the winter – cause technically, the season doesn’t officially starts until December 21st, but the temperatures drop drastically way before that – and the cold weather definitely lasts way after March 21st. But I must say that after Fall – Winter is probably my favorite season to be creative when getting dressed. Perhaps it’s the amount of layers, lol. And, every winter, I try to elevate my winter game by trying new compositions – and learning more about fashion hacks and quality items.

During this past winter, I created a special series for my Instagram featuring 10 winter outfit ideas – and today I’m featuring all the ideas here, linking similar and identical products, to inspire your winter wardrobe. I’m also embeding the videos from Instagram so you can see how I put together every outfit.

1. Black and White – playing with textures and proportions

Black and white is such a classic choice of colors for a winter outfit. But I really love how you can add some twist with texture (like the faux fur coat) and silhouettes (like the wide-leg pants). Also, another amazing trick that’s great for freezing days is adding a thermal layer underneath your pants. Such a comfortable way to wear bottom thermal layers.

2. High-low with sequin pants

Probably one of my favorite outfits from this series – because it was so fun to style these sequin pants with casual elements like the sweatshirt and the white sneakers. This way, you don’t need a “special occasion” to wear these amazing pants! Also, if you, like myself, love to wear black, this is a creative way to add some twist to your outfit.

3. All Black – but make it stylish

Another all black idea – because black it’s the official color in NYC winter – but here I chose shorts with a thermal layer (I love these fleece lined tights, so warm!) and the knee-high boots also add more elegance. Can you imagine how different this would be if I was wearing pants? You could also wear a mini skirt.

4. White and Gray

This is a non-complicated inspiration idea to wear lighter shades in the winter – especially for days with mild temperatures. This could also be a Fall/Spring outfit idea. Simple, chic, comfy and stylish.

5. Basic with a twist!

This sweater vest was one of the best purchases I’ve made this winter. I love how it is versatile – and it’s an item I can use as a layer or as it is, with a long sleeve top or shirt underneath! Perfect for Spring too. Plus, the loafers are super charming.

6. Sezane inspired

I absolutely love Sezane (a French brand) clothes and I love their colors, prints and textures for Fall and Winter outfits. So I got inspired by their lookbooks to create this combination, featuring these gorgeous plaid pants (from Sezane!) with a bold sweater and other camel items to encourage you (and myself) to wear more colors for winter!

7. Chic

An outfit perfect for those days when we want to dress up a little – this skirt is so gorgeous – and this length is chic and elegant, perfect for Fall/Winter vibes! Plus, I really think red lips and a low bun pair perfectly with these chic vibes! And I love the knee-high boots with this outfit.

8. Styling a blazer like a layer

I’ve had always seen girls styling a blazer under a huge coat for a polished outfit – think about it: when you take off your big coat, you are wearing a blazer underneath, instead of, for instance, a basic sweater. Cool, right? Also, this outfit shows another way to dress for winter without relying on black items only – yeah, I’m talking to myself, lol.

9. Burgundy vibes

Burgundy is such a bold and elegant shade for winter outfits. Plus, I love how pleated skirt are versatile and classic. And I also love the effect on the silhouette with the  knee-high boots.

10. Sporty vibes

Or comfy with a twist. Cause some days we just want to be able to wear our joggers and a sweatshirt. This was my first time trying something like this and I love it. I think it looks effortless and casual, plus, it’s so comfy! This winter, I discovered the most comfy – and warm – joggers, with a true black fabric. The fit is perfect, I’m in love.
