I’m back in NYC, and besides the memories from M

I’m back in NYC, and besides the memories from Madrid and some spices and sauces (because grocery store tourism is my religion when traveling, lol), I also brought back this: my certificate from @lae_madrid

And no, it’s not about the certificate itself, but what this piece of paper represents. I’ve grown up loving to study languages—and back in the day, there were no YouTube channels, apps, or online courses, and studying in a private language school was super expensive. I even did some research about studying abroad in 2010 but ended up abandoning the idea because I didn’t have the time or money to do it. Studying abroad was a dream that seemed so distant from my reality.

Cut to 2025—I just got back from Madrid, where I spent a month studying Spanish, a language for which I developed a passion after graduating from college when I started taking English and Spanish classes. It was an incredible experience: connecting with people from different places, learning more about the language, and discovering life in such an amazing city.

I’m so proud of myself for not feeling discouraged by my age or my insecurities. Studying a language abroad isn’t something meant only for teenagers and young adults—in fact, I met people of all ages and different backgrounds at @lae_madrid

Knowledge doesn’t take up any space, and I’m sure I will remember this experience for the rest of my life.

I can’t believe my time in Madrid is almost over

I can’t believe my time in Madrid is almost over. 🇪🇸

After an unconventional Christmas Eve in NYC (check my previous post 🤣), we spent a few days exploring Barcelona before settling here in Madrid, where I’ve been taking Spanish classes at @lae_madrid.

Studying abroad has always been a dream of mine, and I’m so grateful for this experience in Spain. It’s not just about learning and immersing yourself in the language—it’s about the culture, connecting with people, and discovering more about yourself along the way.

While I try to silence the impostor voice in my head whispering “you didn’t share enough, you didn’t create enough content,” I’m also reminding myself of my new mantra: spending less time online and living more offline. Those voices still pop up, but I feel more focused, grounded, and aligned with my core values as I plan for what’s next.

I’ve truly enjoyed my time in Madrid and will miss this city deeply, but I’m also missing NYC (and Dalbit) so much right now. I suppose that’s a good problem to have!

15 RESTAURANTS IN NYC - SAVE THIS POST!

Another day, while scrolling through my photos, I realized that I visited a lot of restaurants in 2024 - but most of them didn’t appear here or only appeared on stories. And since I love a good list (and I noticed you guys also do!) I decided to feature them here!

@mymoon_restaurant - Tapas are delicious - and the paellas are so yummy. Don’t forget the Tarta de Queso.

@misinewyork - it is a famous Italian spot in Williamsburg that serves homemade pasta. But what we really loved was the ricotta toast and the pistachio gelato (among the best I’ve ever tried!)

@kazunorisushi - casual spots for delicious and incredible hand rolls. If you love sushi, you must check it out!

@thegoodgoodnyc - love the vibes here. The drinks are delicious, and the dishes are so creative!

@missionceviche - famous spot in the city for ceviche - but their other dishes like Lomo Saltado and Arroz con Mariscos are also really good!

House of the Red Pearl @tinbuilding - The Black Bean Spare Ribs were our favorite dish. But the highlight was the desserts - especially the Mango Sago Pudding!

@citizens.of - with a few locations in the city, it is a great spot for breakfast and brunch (and for a yummy Belgian waffle!)

@oveliapsistaria - when in Astoria, take advantage of the Greek spots.

@claro.bk - We were mind-blowed by the food here - especially the Empanadita, and the Tacos Campechano de Cabeza.

@badromannyc - it is a stunning Italian restaurant. We love the pasta here and the viral lemon cheesecake.

@izakayatoribar - after we got back from Tokyo, I searched for Izakaya restaurants (they serve Japanese-style tapas) and I found this place.

@soledad_nyc - Thiago and I love Mexican food, and this spot is so unique.

@amarenanyc - an intimate Italian restaurant. Everything we tried here was delicious (including their focaccia).

@songenapulenyc - for pizza - two locations in the city.

The best way to explore Madrid’s charming streets and corners: having my sister @flaneriephoto to capture these moments. Every time we meet - in Paris, in NYC or any other place in the world (now, it happens to be Madrid) I’m always ready for her question: should we go out tomorrow for a shooting?

She always makes us so comfortable and I always get amazed by the results - she is SOOOO talented 🥹❤️

Plus, we will have beautiful memories from this short and sweet season in Madrid 🇪🇸
