What is Blueground?
Blueground is a housing platform that specializes in fully-furnished, medium to long-term rental apartments in major cities around the world. The places are designed for busy professionals, digital nomads, and anyone seeking a turn-key living solution.
Let’s say you are moving to a new city, and you need to find your forever home. That process can be exhausting, overwhelming, and time-consuming. My story is an example of that. When my husband and I moved to NYC back in 2014, we spent the entire first month hunting for a place – while we were also figuring out how to navigate life in a new city – and a new country. Can you imagine spending a whole month in a hotel room? I can’t. Having a place that feels like a home when you are starting a new life is essential. Enter Blueground – you can find a ready-to-move apartment to spend your first weeks in this new place.
Another great example of person that could also benefit from Blueground ready-to-move apartments is a digital nomad. I mean, traveling while you work can sound amazing – but since you have to deal with your work, the last thing you want is dealing with apartments with no furniture and poor wi-fi connection. Flexibility, comfort, and convenience are key ingredients for a stress-free, location-independent lifestyle.
Also, millions of people in the world move to other cities or countries temporary. It could be to learn a new language, to pursue a MBA or even to have an experience as a local for some specific time. And Blueground can be so convenient for these people – especially considering these stays usually last less than a year and, in some places, it can be really hard to get a lease for less than 12 months.
Another thing to add to it is that with Blueground, you don’t need to worry about furniture, utilities, a TV, dinnerware, cookware, bed sheets, or towels. So, when they say the units are ready-to-move, it’s because these units have pretty much everything you need in a home.
So, in sum, these are some advantages of Blueground:
- Convenience: Apartments are ready to move in, so there’s no need to worry about furniture shopping, setting up utilities, or dealing with a lengthy rental process.
- Flexibility: whether you need a place for 30 days (Blueground’s minimum length of stay) or a yer, they offer terms that are tailored to your needs – in fact, that’s perfect for relocations, extended travel, or temporary work assignments.
- Premium Locations: Blueground properties are in nice neighborhoods, usually near public transportation, restaurants, and main city attractions.
My experience with Blueground
We used Blueground in Barcelona, Spain. Here’s how our process was:
- Check-in and check-out – we received an e-mail with our check-in information some days before. There were clear instructions on how to access the building and how to access the apartment – everything was automated. They even provided Wifi information so we could connect when we arrived at the building – in case we didn’t have internet in our phones. Instructions were super clear. We also received information two days before the check-out with instructions.
- Location – our apartment was located at Dreta de l’Eixample – not so far away from main attractions in Barcelona like Sagrada Familia or Casa Batlló. There were a lot of restaurants and shops around and Passeig de Gràcia, a famous avenue in Barcelona, was a short-walk away. There were also subway stations.
- Apartment features – it had two spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and living room area, with a huge terrace. Plus, there was a dishwasher, a washing machine, a toaster, a coffee maker, an electric kettle, and a vacumn. The unit was super luminous and although it was located in a busy area, it was quiet.
- Other features – Wifi connection was great, rooms have air conditioning (crucial during summer!) and the apartment also had plenty of closet space!
Also, Blueground has an app where you can manage your booking, make payments, request maintenance, or access support anytime.

Other facts about Blueground:
- Easy to book and easy and quick check-in and checking-out.
- In a city like New York, there’s no need to worry about legislation around short-term stays, since Blueground minimum stay is 30 days.
- In some locations, there’s a weekly cleaning service included (like in Spain, for example).
- Pics on Blueground’s website reflect exact what you are getting – no space for catchy ads. Also, listings include the unit size in square meters.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience with Blueground and I believe it’s a clever solution for anyone looking for apartments for medium to long-term stays in cities like Tokyo, Paris, London, Madrid, Los Angeles, New York City or any of the other cities where they have units – make sure to check their website to see the full list. Especially in New York City, where I live today and I’m pretty familiar with the hassle to rent a place when you just arrived or when you are a student, it’s such a convenient solution!
My husband and I were able to have a pretty nice routine while we were at the apartment – almost the same we had home: preparing our meals, doing laundry and watching our favorite TV shows at night.
