It was Christmas Eve, 1995. Not sure if it was the night this photo was taken - perhaps it was the year after. But it was an evening like this - two happy sisters after opening their Christmas gifts.

Soon, it all became a nightmare. That night, there was a flood in my hometown - Meleiro, SC, Brazil - and I woke up and found my dad and a neighbor carrying the washer out of the laundry room, located in the back deck. The water had reached our house.

My dad drove us to a safer place. Thanks to the generosity of a lot of people in our town, a lot of kids from my street had a safe place - and the adults could focus on saving some of their furniture and personal belongings.

It’s probably the worst memory I have from my childhood. It was even broadcasted on national TV.

And now, Southern Brazil is facing the worst floods in more than 80 years, with many cities in Rio Grande do Sul being affected. The pics and videos are heartbroken. Houses, cars, bridges, and landmarks are all underwater.

🇧🇷 Foi na noite de Natal de 1995. Não sei se foi o Natal dessa foto. Talvez tenha sido no ano seguinte. Mas foi uma noite assim… eu e minha irmã felizes depois de abrirmos nossos presentes.

Naquela noite, aconteceu uma enchente na minha cidade natal, Meleiro SC, e eu acordei com meu pai e o vizinho tentando salvar a máquina de lavar enquanto andavam dentro da água, que tinha chegado à nossa casa.

Meu pai nos levou para um lugar seguro. Graças à generosidade de moradores, as crianças tiveram um local seguro pra ficar enquanto os adultos trabalhavam pra tentar salvar alguma coisa. É provavelmente a pior memória da minha infância. Deu até na TV.

E agora o RS passa por uma enchente devastadora. Não é fácil ver os vídeos, fotos e as notícias. Porém, juntos, todos podemos fazer a diferença. DOE! O que puder!

THE BEST BANANA BREAD I’VE TRIED IN NYC 🍌

One thing that maybe a lof of you don’t know is that I love cooking - and I also enjoy doing what my husband calls “reversing engineering” with foods that I try - or, it could be translated to coming up with copycat recipes.

That’s what I did with this Banana Bread. After seeing a video from @thecarboholic - I love her recs! - I tried @ilovegoodsugar banana bread and it was so good! So, after checking the ingredients, I combined two recipes to create my version.

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS
- 3 tablespoons chia seeds
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 3 bananas (ripe is better!)
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- ⅔ cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 and 1/2 cup almond flour
- ⅓ cup tapioca flour
- ⅓ cup buckwheat flour
- 1/4 cup millet

- Mix the water and the chia seeds. Reserve for 5 min.
- Meanwhile, mash the bananas and mix with the oil, the maple syrup and the vanilla extract. Reserve.
- Mix the flours, the salt, cinnamon and baking powder.
- Mix the chia seed mixture with the banana mixture and then add to the dry ingredients mix.
- Incorporate the millet
- Bake for 50 min - 350 F

DOG CAFE IN NEW YORK CITY 🐶

First time I’ve ever heard about @borisandhorton was some months ago, when they almost closed - but a crowdfunding prevented that from happening.

Had the chance to make a quick visit to the place located in East Village and it’s so nice! Dalbit was really happy! During the week, you can work from there (no laptops allowed on the weekends) - and besides coffee, they also have a food menu plus dog products and treats. And there are also a lot of events - and another location in Williamsburg!

The place is free - but a donation is highly appreciated (they suggest $10 if you bring a dog, $5 if you go by yourself). Such a nice idea ❤️ I will definitely be back!
